Two Dutch tourists who told authorities they wanted to record a video of Area 51 pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor of intrusion and illegal parking after their arrests at the Nevada Security Site.
A judge on Monday sentenced Gover Charles Wilhelmus Jacob Sweep, 21, and Ties Granzier, 20, 10 days in the Nye County jail, but said they can be released in three days if they pay their $ 2,280 fines each one.

His clients had planned to publish videos on the Internet before this week’s events that are derived from a hoax on the Internet and that invited people to a remote test site of the United States Air Force, more than 20 miles from where Sweep and Granzier were arrested.

Nye County prosecutor Chris Arabia said Sweep and Granzier could face a more serious conspiracy charge if they are found again at the Nevada National Security Site, a large and guarded area about 90 miles northwest of Las Vegas, and where the government conducted nuclear weapons tests from 1945 to 1992.
The two were arrested on September 10 in a car inside the door of a site near Mercury.
The security site covers an area almost the size of the state of Rhode Island. It is separated but adjacent to the Nevada Test and Training Range, an area almost twice the size of Delaware where the Air Force conducts air combat training, bombardment and stealth aircraft testing.
Access to Area 51 is prohibited.
In a video press release from the Nye County sheriff’s office, Sweep and Granzier say they will return to the Netherlands after their planned release on Thursday, “We didn’t want to cause any problems,” Granzier said. “Everything has gone a little out of control.”
