Vietnam Airlines and Saber announce expanded strategic cooperation

Vietnam AirlinesVietnam Airlines, the national airline of Vietnam, and Saber Corporation, a leading technology provider to the global tourism industry, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in the presence of US President Donald Trump and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Secretary General of the Vietnamese Communist Party Nguyen Phu Trong.

The Memorandum of Understanding reflects the intention of Vietnam Airlines to significantly expand the existing strategic partnership with Saber, whose potential is estimated at 300 million USD. The signed document covers the innovative technologies of the Saber AirVision and AirCenter portfolio, which will complement the recently updated Vietnam Airlines SabreSonic Passenger Service System (PSS). Saber solutions will help improve the profitability and digital capabilities of the airline as part of its development strategy until 2020.

The memorandum suggests that the innovative solution Saber In-Flight will be the first to be implemented by the airline after signing. The decision will not only achieve a 10% reduction in costs but also improve the operational efficiency of the airline. In addition, the Memorandum provides for a new long-term content distribution agreement for Vietnam Airlines through the global Saber System. Subsidiaries that are part of Vietnam Airlines group of companies will also be connected to SabreSonic PSS, which will provide a single integrated technology platform for their passengers.

“Vietnam Airlines is pleased to have the opportunity to deepen the existing agreement with Saber, a reliable and long-term technology provider, providing advanced solutions to promote our business. The digital transformation program is essential for the successful development of the airline, and the implementation of Saber solutions is directly consistent with our efforts to achieve Skytrax 5-star status”, said the President and CEO of Vietnam Airlines JSC, Duong Tri Thanh.

The memorandum was signed a year after Saber and Vietnam Airlines announced the expansion of the agreement on the SabreSonic passenger service system, valued at more than 400 million USD, and the renewal of the long-term agreement on the distribution of content through the global system Saber. The memorandum will expand and deepen the partnership of industry leaders, as well as strengthen the alliance that has developed between corporations for over 20 years.
