United Airlines plane Airbus A319-100 reported interior fire in cabin after overheating of passenger battery. The airplane was on flight from San Francisco to Jackson Hole, but at the approach the flight attendants reported for smoke in the passenger cabin, which came from a battery. The pilot reported the accident to the local authorities and flight control and continued to Jackson, where landed the aircraft without further incident. Meanwhile the flight attendants extinguished the fire and cooled the batteries, which were inflamed.
During the firefighting two flight attendants and one passenger received minor injuries. Fortunately there were no other reported injuries and no other affected people from the accident. Also the airplane did not suffered any damages during the fire.
The affected battery was a personal electronics, but reason for the accident is under investigation from the safety inspectors and local authorities.
The airplane was released to return in service after short check.
Airbus A319 is a member of the Airbus A320 family of short- to medium-range, narrow-body, commercial passenger twin-engine jet airliners. The A319 carries up to 160 passengers and has a maximum range of 6,900 km. Final assembly of the aircraft takes place in Hamburg, Germany and Tianjin, China. The Airbus A319 is a shortened-fuselage variant of the A320. The aircraft shares a common type rating with all other Airbus A320 family variants, allowing existing A320 family pilots to fly the aircraft without the need for further training.
