Syrian government forces have seized a considerable amount of Western-made weapons and ammunition, including American TOW missiles, left by terrorist teams in the southern part of the war-torn Arab country.
Syria’s official news agency, SANA, reported Sunday that army troops discovered and confiscated weapons, including 23 automatic and rapid-firing anti-aircraft guns, a considerable amount of machine gun ammunition, as well as several rifles and rockets.
SANA added that government troops also managed to discover and seize rocket-propelled grenades, explosive reactive armor, hand grenades, a reconnaissance drone equipped with a camera and night vision goggles.
On June 6, Syrian government forces carried out a series of cleaning operations in the province of Quneitra, in the southwest of the country, near the Golan Heights occupied by Israel, discovering a substantial amount of ammunition, some of they built in the United States from a former stronghold of foreign-backed Takfiri terrorists.
An unidentified military source told SANA that Syrian soldiers launched operations outside the city of Jubata al-Khashab to clean the area of hidden explosive devices and ammunition left by militants.
The source added that the weapons were hidden inside two underground tunnels dug by terrorists, which included artillery shells, rockets, night vision devices, US BGM-71 TOW anti-tank missiles and various types of machine guns.
It was not the first time that Syrian forces discovered such ammunition. Recently, Israeli and American weapons left by terrorists were found in southern Syria.
In recent months, foreign-backed terrorists have suffered heavy defeats in battles against Syrian government forces, backed by the Russian air force and Iranian military advisers.
