The creation of the first prototype of a supersonic passenger aircraft is expected in 2-3 years. This was stated by Kirill Sypalo, the general director of the Zhukovsky Central AeroHydrodynamic Institute Federal State Unitary Enterprise.
“The work is underway. We hope that somewhere in the near future, in two or three years, we will already receive a full-fledged flight prototype for this aircraft”, said Kirill Sypalo.
According to him, at present, the institute is working on “forming a response to the presidential instructions regarding the resumption of the program to create supersonic aircraft based on the technologies that have already been implemented on the Tu-144 project and in the projects of our supersonic long-range strategic bombers”.
“Together with Tupolev, active work is underway, three layouts have been selected. I hope that in the near future we will be able to present them and present them at relevant exhibitions”, said Kirill Sypalo.
He noted that the institute is also actively promoting the topic of a supersonic business passenger aircraft, the model of which was demonstrated at the Gidroaviasalon-2018 in Gelendzhik.
