Riga International Airport become one of the five fastest growing airports in Europe, according to Airport Council International (ACI). The airport enters in a group with 5-10 million passengers served per year, after reporting 16.2% increase in July and 15.3% increase in August.
“The growth of Riga Airport significantly exceeds the average European figures, which according to ACI were 9.6% in July and the average growth in its group (5-10 million passengers served per year) of 10.2%”, said the chairman of the board of the Riga International Airport, Ilona Lice.
ACI EUROPE’s report on air traffic in July covers 247 airports in Europe, which account for 88% of Europe’s passenger traffic.
According to operational data on the results of the airport, Riga Airport continued to increase the volume of cargo and passenger transportation in August. In August, 644,800 passengers were serviced at Riga Airport, which is 15.3% more than in August last year. In the first eight months of this year the number of passengers increased by almost 11%, and the volume of serviced cargo – by 10%. In general, over eight months of the year, the airport serviced more than 4 million passengers, which is 10.9% more than in 2016. The number of transit and transfer passengers at Riga Airport in the eight months of 2017 increased by 18% and reached almost 1.2 million passengers – about one-third of the total number of passengers served.
