PSA Airlines plane Bombardier CRJ-200ER collided with tug vehicle on the north ramp at Charlotte Douglas International Airport. The aircraft was taxiing to gate E-35 of the airport, but ran into a tug vehicle. During the accident on board of the aircraft were 31 passengers and 3 crew, but none of them was injured. the airplane also did not suffered damages. The driver of the vehicle was wounded and was taken to a local hospital for medical treatment, but remains in stable condition.
According to witnesses the woman operating the vehicle turned and hit the plane abruptly. The root cause of the accident is unclear and local authorities and airport safety inspectors initiated investigation.
The crash caused disruption of operations at the airport Terminal E, expected to impact dozens of regional flights tonight and possibly into tomorrow. The north part of Terminal E will be closed until the FAA and NTSP complete their investigation into the crash.
“PSA Airlines 5223, CL600-2B aircraft, and a tug collided on the north ramp at Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 4:35 pm today. The collision occurred while the aircraft was taxiing to the gate after landing. The aircraft and tug are blocking several gates”, said the official statement of Federal Aviation Administration.
Bombardier CRJ200 is regional airliner manufactured by Bombardier, and based on the Canadair Challenger business jet. The aircraft has length of 26.77 m, height of 6.22 m, wingspan of 21.21 m and wing area of 48.35 sq m. The CRJ200 has upgraded engines to the CF34-3B1 model, offering improved efficiency.
