NASA confirmed that it plans to shoot a movie in outer space with actor Tom Cruise and the collaboration Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, after several media outlets advanced the news throughout this week.
“NASA is excited to be working with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the International Space Station. We need popular media culture that inspires a new generation of engineers and scientists to realize NASA’s ambitious plans,” the administrator of the American aerospace agency, Jim Bridenstine, wrote on Twitter.
Deadline, the Hollywood-based daily newspaper, was the first to leak the project, which would be the first fictional film shot in space.
According to this news, the collaboration between Cruise and Musk, also the founder of Tesla, is not yet supported by a film studio and would be in a very early phase, with the support of the US space agency.
In addition, the publication clarified that this is not a new installment of the franchise ‘Mission: Impossible’.
“There has never been a protagonist who puts himself at risk as often as Cruise to achieve the most realistic action sequences possible. If he succeeds in filming a project on Musk’s spaceship, he will figure alone in the Hollywood record book. Stay tuned,” said the Deadline story that was replicated by numerous US media outlets.
There are no more details of this information and at the moment Musk, who is usually very active on Twitter, has not commented on any further progress on social networks.
Tom Cruise would be finalizing the details of this tape during his break in the filming of “Mission: Impossible 7”, which was one of the first productions that had to be completely stopped when in February he was alerted to the expansion of the coronavirus in Italy and the the team was starting the recording in Venice.
