The Mongolian airline Hunnu Air for the first time performed a transit flight Ulaanbaatar – Ulan-Ude – Manchuria (China). Flights on the new route will be carried out twice a week on an ATR 72 aircraft, capable to carry up to 70 passengers.
“Today’s flight is completely full, the next one too”, commented the officials. “For the first time in history, such a flight was made, in transit through three countries”, adds the statement.
“Thanks to this destination, flights to Manchuria were resumed in Buryatia and the number of flights to Ulaanbaatar increased. Using the status of the Baikal airport, we plan to attract third or fourth countries, such as Korea and Japan. We will connect with them through Ulan-Ude airport”, vice president of MAK (owner of the majority of Hunnu Air shares), Baldan Enkhmandakh.
Baikal Airport is an inter-Russian hub airport of federal importance and has international status, one of the advantages of the air port in Ulan-Ude is its geographical location and the ability to receive flights from the countries of the Asia-Pacific region for technical landing, refueling and ground service. In 2018, the airport plans to complete the construction of a new runway, 3.4 km long and 45 m wide.
The ATR 72 is a twin-engine turboprop, short-haul regional airliner developed and produced in France and Italy by aircraft manufacturer ATR, a joint venture formed by French aerospace company Aérospatiale and Italian aviation conglomerate Aeritalia.
