Lufthansa interested in acquisition of the bankrupted Italian airline Alitalia. The German carrier offered 250 million EUR for the purchase of most of the fleet of bankrupt Alitalia, half of the staff and all the slots used by the Italian airline.
According to the current offer, Lufthansa wants to buy 100 aircraft from the fleet of bankrupted Italian airline, employing 6,000 workers. The German carrier has already confirmed that it will use the slots in airport in Rome for part of the transatlantic flights to the Americas, and Milan airport will leave for European destinations.
The Italian Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, is pleased about the talk lead with Lufthansa for purchase of Alitalia, but asks for improvement of the offer and commitment for employees.
The Italian airline’s commissioner had said that Alitalia could still rely on a “treasury” in cash and is strong enough to be able to choose the best partner. The Italian flag carrier has nearly 850 million EUR from the 900-million-euro provided government bridge loans.
Alitalia is the flag carrier of Italy. The company has its head office in Fiumicino, Rome, Italy. Its main hub is Leonardo da Vinci-Fiumicino Airport, Rome, and a secondary is Linate Airport, Milan.
