Google and NASA collaborated to document the daily work being done on the Canadian island of Devon where research is conducted to help the colonization of Mars.
A polar and desert climate, arid relief as well as a blanket of fog are some of the elements that will find astronauts who get to reach Mars, to acclimatize them to these conditions NASA created a habitat in an area of Canada that resembles the Martian surface.
Through a video, created by Google, we can explore the Canadian island of Devon itself, which is listed by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as the ideal place to carry out the Haughton-Mars project (HMPRS) that consists in which they live in it, throughout the summer, a group of researchers with the mission of trying to recreate the conditions that would be lived on Mars.
The recording, which lasts 10 minutes, allows YouTube users to know part of the landscape of the island as well as observe the day-to-day life of researchers who recreate part of the challenges that the first people who land in The Martian surface.
Speaking by Mag, Dr. Pascal Lee, a planetary scientist at the Institute of Mars and director of the HMPRS, said the entire working group was excited about this new partnership with Google as they hoped that through it they could “share with the world some of the wonders of Mars of the site and the fieldwork we do”.
In this way, in the images we can see part of the research that was carried out in the HMPRS during the 2018 field season, including flight tests and scientific application studies of NASA‘s Mars Electric Reusable Flyer or MERF, an experimental aircraft for Mars exploration currently under development.
