Fire broke out at the Kenya’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in the capital Nairobi. The fire originated in the fuel storage area of Kenya Pipeline Company depot in the area of the airport. It said the government’s Disaster Management units were trying to put out the fire, the cause of which was unknown.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet says the fire at Embakasi oil terminal affected only one lorry that was loading oil sediment and was put out immediately.
The fire did not affect the departure and reception of flights. No reported damages at the airport terminal facilities.
The investigation for the root cause of the accident is under way.
Jomo Kenyatta International Airport is an international airport in Nairobi, the capital of and largest city in Kenya. The airport is named after Jomo Kenyatta, Kenya’s first president and prime minister. The airport served over 7 million passengers in 2016, making it the seventh busiest airport in passenger traffic on the continent.
