The US courier company FedEx Express ordered 24 Boeing aircraft, reported the press service of the aircraft manufacturer. The new order includes 12 cargo planes Boeing 767 and 12 cargo Boeing 777. The contract value is estimated at around 6.6 billion USD at market prices.
“We are taking another positive step in our fleet modernization program, as we get more efficient and more environmentally friendly aircraft”, said the president and CEO of FedEx Express, David Cunningha.
This confirms the growth in global demand for freight, which amounted to 10% last year. While the increase in air cargo in 2018 is expected to be 4-5%.
With the latest order from FedEx Express in 2018, Boeing has sold more than 50 wide-body aircraft.
“We are honored that FedEx once again believed in Boeing 767 and 777. This re-order is a great vote of confidence in the world’s leading cargo family of Boeing aircraft and long-term prospects for air travel”, said the president and CEO Boeing Commercial Airplanes, Kevin McAllister.
The Boeing 767 is a mid- to large-size, mid- to long-range, wide-body twin-engine jet airliner. It was Boeing’s first wide-body twinjet and its first airliner with a two-crew glass cockpit. The aircraft has two turbofan engines, a conventional tail, and, for reduced aerodynamic drag, a supercritical wing design.
Boeing 777 is long-range wide-body twin-engine jet airliner. It is the world’s largest twinjet with a range of 5,240 to 8,555 nautical miles (9,704 to 15,844 km).
