Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737-800 skidded off the runway after landing at Entebbe International Airport, Uganda. The aircraft was performing flight ET338 from Addis Ababa-Bole Airport and landed on runway 17 at Entebbe International Airport, but failed to stop on time and skidded with a few meters.
There were no reported injuries during the accident. Passengers and crew were safely deplaned and were taken to the terminal and cleared normally through the regular process. There is no damage to the aircraft and it is being towed to the ramp.
“We apologize to our valued customers, who were on-board the flight for the inconvenience. An alternative flight is being arranged to complete the return flight and rebook the passengers, who were booked to travel from Entebbe to Addis Ababa”, says the official statement of Ethiopian Airlines.
The operations of Entebbe International Airport were hampered during the accident and seriously delayed. Inbound flights have been diverted.
Runway 17 is 12000 ft (3,658 m) long.
The investigation for the root cause of the accident is underway.
The Boeing 737 is a short- to medium-range twinjet narrow-body airliner developed and manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes in the United States. The 737 is Boeing’s only narrow-body airliner in production, with the 737 Next Generation (-700, -800, and -900ER) and the re-engined and updated 737 MAX variants currently being built.
