For the first time in history, the United States Air Force will be commanded by an African American officer, Charles Brown, whose appointment comes amid the wave of protests protests in that country by the murder of the citizen George Floyd, at the hands of the Minneapolis Police.
The Senate approved the appointment of four-star General Brown, who was nominated by President Donald Trump, half cornered by the criticism he receives given his generally aggressive speech to immigrants and ethnic minority groups.
Until the time of his current appointment, Charles Brown served as commander of the Pacific Air Force.
Following Senate approval, President Trump noted on his Twitter account: “A historic day for America! Excited to work even more closely with General Brown, who is a patriot and a great leader!”
He did so at the same time that hundreds of people were accompanying George Floyd’s family at his funeral.
