Small airplane Yakovlev Yak-11 overturned after landing at Mainz-Finthen airfield in Germany. The 80-year-old pilot from Hesse was injured after the crash and taken to the hospital.
The Russian turbo-drop aircraft headed for the asphalt runway of the airfield in Mainz-Finthen on Sunday afternoon. For unexplained reasons, it has been placed on the security strip. When unrolling on uneven terrain, the machine, which has two tires at the front and a so-called tail wheel at the rear, then overturned. It stayed upside down on the grass.
The 80-year-old pilot from Hesse had to be released from the machine by the fire brigade and the rescue service, as the police reported. Further details were not clear.
The runway was closed after the accident.
The Yakovlev Yak-11 is a trainer aircraft used by the Soviet Air Force and other Soviet-influenced air forces from 1947 until 1962. the plane has a length of 8.20 m, the height of 3.28 m and a wingspan of 9.40 m. The plane has an empty weight of 1,900 kg and a maximum takeoff weight of 2,440 kg.
