A military aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) with thirteen people on board, eight of them members of the crew, disappeared today in the northwest of the Asian nation.
The aircraft was last contacted at 13 local time (4.30 in Argentina) “and since then there has been no contact,” said an Indian government source quoted by the news agency EFE and who requested anonymity.
According to the source, the IAF’s AN-32 aircraft took off at 12.25 local time from Jorhat, in the state of Assam, to an airfield in neighboring Arunachal Pradesh with “eight crew members and five passengers on board.”
However, the plane did not reach the airport it was heading to, so Indian air forces are using “all available resources” to find it, the source said.
Air accidents are common among the country’s military fleet, and in one of the worst events of recent years, authorities killed 29 occupants of an IAF plane that disappeared in 2016 in the Indian Ocean.
Although the military forces conducted more than 200 search operations by sea and air, the remains of the missing device were never found.
