On Tuesday the president of the United States, Donald Trump, talked about “very strong” sanctions that the country imposed on Rosneft Trading, a subsidiary of the Russian oil company Rosneft, for doing business with the government of Venezuela.
“We have put additional sanctions, very strong sanctions, against Venezuela,” Trump told the media from the Andrews Air Force Base, while ensuring that the United States monitors Venezuela “very closely.” “We will see what happens,” he added.
He also referred to Juan Guaidó and specified that “he is the person that, right now, Venezuela prefers.”
The United States sanctioned Rosneft Trading and its president, Didier Casimiro, within the framework of the offensive announced by the US Administration to increase pressure on the Government of Nicolás Maduro.
Specifically, the US Treasury Department documented operations of the oil company with Venezuelan crude, which includes shipments to Africa and Asia.
The sanctions imply that all property and interests of the company and Casimir in the United States will be confiscated.
The State Department had warned in recent weeks that it would monitor the activities of companies that do business “directly or indirectly” with the Maduro dispute government, including Rosneft, the Spanish Repsol or the American Chevron.
