First Supermoon of the Year and Mercury Approach will Arrive this Month

Next weekend two astronomical events will take place in space and can be seen from Earth: the first supermoon of the year and the approach of Mercury to the planet.

The supermoon can be seen in the sky on February 9 and will be the largest in 2020. In this phenomenon our satellite reaches its closest point with the Earth.

In ancient times it was believed that this moon directly affected crops and fisheries, because “the energy” emitted by the satellite altered the behavior of water and land.

By February 10, Mercury’s approach will be able to capture all our attention by having its greatest eastern lengthening.

The best way to contemplate these phenomena will be going to places where artificial light is not an impediment and the sky is clear.
