What lit the fuse of the crisis?

The situation in the region has become explosive since last Thursday an air strike  launched  by the Pentagon in Baghdad ended the lives of 12 people, including Iranian General Qassem Soleimani and the leader of Kataib Hezbollah and the Mobilization Forces Popular, Abu Mahdi al Muhandis.

The dawn of Wednesday Iran  launched  22 short-range ballistic missiles against two Iraqi air bases that house US troops in response to the  murder  of Soleimani. Iranian media said  80 people would have died , while Trump wrote a tweet with a call for calm: “Everything is fine!”

Hours later, Trump  gave  a speech in which he said that the US will continue to exert “maximum pressure” on Iran and impose “additional economic sanctions.” He also asked NATO to become more involved in the process of pacification of the Middle East and requested the United Kingdom, France, Germany, China and Russia to break the nuclear agreement reached in 2015 with Tehran to renegotiate a new pact.
