Air Force Fighter Jets of Korea will Hold Air Demonstrations to Commemorate Their 70th Anniversary

South Korean fighter jets will conduct air demonstrations along with US fighters this week during a ceremony to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the South Korean Air Force, officials announced this Friday.

The ceremony will be held on Saturday at Seoul Airport in Seongnam, south of Seoul, where the International Aerospace and Defense Exhibition (ADEX) is held.

During the event, which will be chaired by the Chief of the General Staff of the South Korean Air Force, General Won In-choul, great resources of the Air Force, such as the F-15K and KF-16 fighter jets, will perform air maneuvers, along with the F-16 fighters of the United States Air Force, officials announced.

The ceremony will also bring together former Air Force ex-bosses, as well as foreign delegates from countries that participated in the 1950-53 Korean War, the Air Force added.

With the goal of promoting military service and native airplanes to the public, the Air Force also plans to name seven public pilots, who will fly over the peninsula on locally manufactured T-50 and FA-50 planes.

The South Korean Air Force was established on October 1, 1949, with a staff of about 1,600 people and 20 light aircraft.

After the outbreak of the Korean War in 1950, the Air Force acquired its first fighter aircraft -10 Mustang F-51 fighters from the United States Air Force- and carried out operations.

After seventy years, the South Korean Air Force has made great progress and now has state-of-the-art weapons systems, such as F-35A poachers and KC-330 tankers, and aims to be a leading aerospace power that dominate the military sector in the future, officials said.
