The Royal Schiphol Group, which operates four Dutch airports, has announced the signing of a 15-year agreement with Eneco, committed to supply 200 GWh of green energy per year. This amount of energy is equivalent to consuming one city of 60,000 inhabitants. The first deliveries of renewable energy produced exclusively in the country to the airports will start as early as January 1, 2018. The share of green energy into the airports mix will increase with the opening of new wind parks.
When deciding on the transition to renewable energy sources, the management company wished to support the domestic producer and use exclusively Dutch electricity produced by wind power.
:For our new energy contract, we wanted nothing but sustainable power generated in the Netherlands. We feel that the most important elements of this collaboration with Eneco are that all the Schiphol Group airports are involved and that additional sustainable energy sources will be developed in the Netherlands”, said the CEO of Royal Schiphol Group, Jos Nijhuis. “This will allow our airports to increase their sustainability and offer economic benefits”, added he.
Royal Schiphol Group operates the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, Rotterdam The Hague Airport, Eindhoven Airport and Lelystad Airport.
