The NASA has created a contest for naming its Mars Rover 2020, the robot will be launched toward Mars in mid-2020 and is expected to reach the Red Planet in 2021. The contest emerges as an initiative of NASA to introduce children to the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

For his part, NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine has said that the contest is “a wonderful opportunity for young Americans to get involved in NASA space missions.” To participate in the contest, 52 semifinalists from different levels of studies will be selected, representing the different American states.

Then, three finalists will be chosen that can be voted on by the public from home. Finally, the winner will be announced on February 18, 2020, one year before the date on which the rover is scheduled to land on Mars.
