A group of B-52 Stratofortress heavy bombers from the 69th Expeditionary Bomb Squadron, deployed from the Minot Air Force Base, ND, lands at Andersen Air Force Base, Guam.
According to the Public Affairs Department of Wing 36, a new rotation of crews, maintenance personnel and aircraft assigned to the 69th EBS arrived in Guam to replace the 23rd EBS in support of the continuing bombing mission of the Pacific Command of the States United.
Since March 2004, Andersen Base has hosted the Continuous Bombers Presence (CBP) mission, designed to improve regional security and provide guarantees to allies and partners that the United States is capable of defending its national security interests in the Indo-Asian and Pacific region.
Airmen arriving from the 69th EBS will be highlighted in Guam during the next six months to carry out the operations and training of the CBP.
The deployment of the bomber improves regional security and underlines the United States commitment to the Western Pacific. The addition of B-52 bombers to Guam provides the PACOM commander with a global attack capability and strategic commitment that would not otherwise exist in the region, authorities said.
The Boeing B-52 primarily provides the United States with an immediate global nuclear and conventional attack capability. The B-52 is the bomber with the most combat capacity in the US inventory.
Due to its high mission capacity rate, large payload, long range, persistence and ability to use both nuclear weapons and conventional separation precision, the B-52 remains a critical contributor to the United States National Security Strategy.
