An unmanned aircraft of the United States dedicated to espionage operations, was shot down Thursday morning by IRGC Iran, near the Strait of Hormuz, where several tankers have been attacked in recent weeks.

According to a report by the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC), the drone entered Iranian airspace in the early hours of Thursday, flying over the Koohe Mobarak region, in the southern province of Hormozgan, in the South coast of the country.

In a statement issued early Thursday, the IRGC indicated that the Air Force shot down the US-made “Global Hawk” surveillance aircraft, as the US spy drone “violated Iranian territorial airspace.”

The violation of the borders of the Islamic Republic of Iran “represents our red line,” said Major General Hosein Salami, leader of the Guardians of the Revolution, stressing that this response is “a clear, clear and accurate message from the defenders of the borders of the Islamic homeland of Iran,” said General Salami.

“We declare that we do not seek war but we are prepared to respond to any declaration of war,” Salami said.
