Lufthansa canceled more than 400 flights due to strike on eight German airports

LufthansaLufthansa, one of the largest airlines in Europe, canceled at least 414 flights on January 15 due to workers’ strikes at eight German airports.

The security employees of eight German airports announced effective strike today, demanding an increase in salaries and better working conditions. The strike affects the airports in Bremen, Hamburg, Hannover, Dresden, Leipzig, Munich, Erfurt, and also in the country’s largest air hub in Frankfurt

The strike affects Frankfurt and Munich airports (Lufthansa hubs) for several hours.

Thus, the cancellation will affect 386 flights within Europe and 28 intercontinental routes, and these figures do not take into account the cancellation of flights in Munich.

The strike is organized by the German trade union Verdi.

“Since employers have not shown a desire to offer [employees] improved conditions, reinforcement of strikes has become necessary”, says the statement of Verdi.

The next round of talks is scheduled for January 23.
