Amsterdam Airport Schiphol resumed normal operation on Monday evening after the evacuation of one of the terminals due to a bomb threat. A 51-year-old Canadian man has been arrested for the accident.
The airport authorities said departure hall 3 and arrivals hall 3 were evacuated at around 20:00 local time after a man claimed to have a bomb.
In total, it took about 30 minutes to detain the suspect and resume operation of the terminal. No explosives were found.
Dutch police were already on high alert on Monday after five men in the Netherlands and Germany were detained on charges of planning an attack. The incident at Schiphol is not believed to be linked to the arrests.
Amsterdam Airport Schiphol is the main international airport in the Netherlands. It is located 9 km southwest of Amsterdam, in the municipality of Haarlemmermeer, North Holland. It is the third busiest airport in Europe in terms of passenger volume.
