Indonesia authorities confirmed for technical malfunctions Lion Air’s Boeing 737 MAX 8, among which are incorrect readings of speed devices.
“During the previous flight (from Denpasar to Tsenkareng on October 28) there were technical malfunctions, including a false indication of speed”, said the local authorities. According to them, “circumstances are being investigated”.
Earlier, the CEO of Lion Air, Edward Sirait, admitted “the technical problem that has arisen, which was solved in accordance with the procedure” during the previous flight of the liner. However, he refused to specify the nature of the malfunctions.
According to the latest information from the officials, “the technical malfunction was much more serious than the Lion Air management claims”. In particular, according to the publication, it is related with the failure of the navigational instrument indicator panel of the aircraft.
The airline Lion Air intends to meet with a group of representatives of the aircraft manufacturer to discuss the technical problem and aircraft crash, which caused death of 189 people.
“We have a lot of questions for them. It was a new plane”, said the spokesperson of Lion Air. The airline is one of the largest customers of Boeing worldwide.
Lion Air’s Boeing 737 MAX8, carrying 189 passengers and crew, crashed into the sea shortly after takeoff from the Indonesian capital Jakarta. The flight JT610 was reported missing 13 minutes after it took off at 6:20 a.m. (local time) en route to Pangkal Pinang, the capital of the Sumatran island of Bangka-Belitung.
