Ukraine becomes a serious player in the European air transport market

Ukraine airportUkraine becomes a serious player in the European air transport market. And in this context, it is important to strengthen the role of the Boryspil airport in the capital as a regional hub and work together with international partners on the development of regional airports. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman during a special government meeting on the situation in the aviation industry, the results of work for the first 9 months of the year and prospects for the next year.

According to the State Statistics Service of Ukraine, in the transport segment, it is the airline industry that is showing steady growth. By the end of the year, the absolute figure of passenger traffic is expected to be about 20 million passengers.

“This is a serious step forward, and we have become a serious player in the airline market”, said Volodymyr Groysman. “And we need to strengthen this, open it up for the Ukrainian world and make it accessible. This is the task I have set”, added he.

According to the head of government, today a third of the air traffic is transit passengers, who choose Kiev as a place of transfer. And this is a good sign for the implementation of the hub strategy.

“At the same time, the development of regional airports is also important. Odessa, Lviv, Kharkov, Kherson – passenger traffic is also growing there. We need to make a global program of their development. I will offer specific airport development projects to international partners. The state, international organizations – together we can make programs and provide a new quality of service. Ukrainians will feel it”, said Volodymyr Groysman.
