The bankrupt German airline Air Berlin sold its subsidiary Aviation GmbH to the British travel company Thomas Cook Group Airlines PLC. According to Thomas Cook Group, the acquisition will provide its subsidiary airline Condor Airlines with additional growth opportunities, in line with plans to expand its business in Germany.
None of the companies specified how much Thomas Cook would pay in the course of such a transaction, but according to a sources familiar with the situation, the British travel company paid about 1 million EUR to Air Berlin.
Air Berlin, which declared bankruptcy in August 2017, has already sold the major parts of its assets to Germany’s largest airline Lufthansa and British easyJet.
Condor Flugdienst GmbH, branded as Condor Airlines, is a German leisure airline based in Frankfurt. It operates scheduled flights to tourist destinations in the Mediterranean, Asia, Africa, North America, South America and the Caribbean. Its main base is at Frankfurt Airport from which most of its long-haul flights depart.
